First Snow Day of the Year

I was glad to know that my family and friends from the East Coast all survived Superstorm Sandy.   Here in North Central WV we were graced with some snow.  The weather gave us a day off of school and the opportunity for some outside fun.  The snow was perfect for building a snowman and the girls took advantage.  For the most part our girls love playing outside.  However, I have noticed that when the weather is colder Charlotte is quicker to go inside.  When the weather is warmer Drea tends to go inside first.  Either way we had fun and it was a great way to spend the day.

Just playing in the snow

They were having so much fun, I couldn't get them to look at the camera

Every time it snows Drea wants to make a snowman....She finally got that chance

Adding the arms...

....eyes and nose

Charlotte taking a break

Adding the mouth

Buttons and a hat

Finally finished.....we named her, well, Sandy

We had such a nice time playing in the snow.  We even got the sleds out and attempted to sled down the hill next to the house.  It was slow moving, but that was probably for the best since the girls probably would have been scared.  After that we went in the house and made hot chocolate and sugar cookies.

Andy you are the best dad! Building a snowman brings back memories from my childhood and doing the same thing. My dad one time went out a created this great lady snowman! Will never forget it! The girls look so adorable and I know that all of you had a blast! Of course, hot chocolate and cookies are a great treat at the end of a cold almost winter day in the snow! Try packing the snow down on the hill before sledding. My mom showed me that trick when I was a kid. We would go over to the swamp and pack the snow down and head down the hill. It was steep & a blast, plus the marsh and pond were frozen so we didn't have to worry about getting wet! My mom was big into winter sports (sledding & ice skating) from growing up in upstate Pa., where it was always colder than NJ!

funny you are a mile away and i think you had more snow than we did! i know we didn't have enough snow to build a snowman and if you get points for going out with the kids..you would win there too! love the snow-womans name...fun. i agree with your mom--you are a great dad!

I was actually going to say the opposite of Lorrie---I can't believe how "little" snow you had compared to out our way! It's amazing the difference a couple more miles makes! We had prob 7 + inches, maybe more. We got a couple good sledding rounds in--we've got a great hill for it. Next big snow, the small group sledding party is at our house!
